Are you in these pictures? Please help us identify participants in the historic 1963 Chicago Public School boycott. We are searching for participants to interview for our Kartemquin documentary in progress, ’63 Boycott.
If you see anyone you know in a picture, please leave as much information as you can to help us find them, and if you are in contact with them encourage them to visit the site and contact us.
The first in a series of school boycotts occurred on October 22, 1963. The march originated at neighborhood schools from all sides of the city: South, West, and North. All of the marchers converged downtown for a Downtown Rally outside of the Chicago Board of Education headquarters at City Hall. We’ve organized the groupings of photos below based on where the images were taken. Please let us know if you have information that will make our map more accurate.
